Visual Arts and Performance

artist websiteAdam Soltau

One of my favorite things in the world is a blank canvas. White and empty, it contains an infinite number of possibilities. The same way our universe used to look. The same way we used to look. It is the artist that, no matter the skill level, possesses the divine hand. And within these open fields of possibility, we attempt to capture or convey our lives, thoughts, hearts, friends, secrets, stories, or moments, however fleeting. Art is the vessel that helps us master time. Through it we can record the structure of a cell or see the color of a heartbeat. And while it is people that make up a society, art is it’s measurement. The pieces we create not only define ourselves, they also define the world around us. I try to keep this in mind as I work. Art is bigger than ourselves. Of course what I paint is personal, but I like to consider it something that belongs to everyone, even if its just a memory. We put pieces of ourselves out there and we refill the space with something from someone else. An inward and outward spiral of inspiration. And the highest acclaim any artist can achieve is to produce something truly great. A piece that changes the course of someone’s life. I think that if i can even come within orbit of one day making something like that, my duty as an artist will be fulfilled. Until then I will keep attempting and I will keep looking.

artist websiteAerial Fabric Environment by Cecil Sparrow and Anomily Quin

The aerial fabric performances by Cecil Sparrow and Anomily Quin express a dynamic play between quirky character interaction and beautiful dreamlike flows through space. These performances, much like dreams, do not have starts and stops, but are a glimpse into the stories of these two creatures and their aerial environment. The characters we play are not just a mask donned for the performance, but an expression of deep aspects of the inner being, and the story of dreams unfolding from within. Each act morphs in response to the ever-changing atmosphere created by the audience, where no one is just an observer, and the changing energies of the festival will reflect in the changing energies of the performance. Our performances are an airy mirror for your dreams.

My passion for creating is part of my makeup. I am usually doing something creative or am thinking of doing something creative.
It was because of this that I decided to pursue a formal education in visual arts.  My interests in sculpture, photography and printmaking led me to earn a BFA from the University of Victoria.   Soon after I traveled and worked in Japan and Australia and have since nestled close to my roots and family on the west coast of Canada.
My output of visual work consists mainly of a mix of painting, multimedia printmaking, digital video and image creation.  I’m heavily inspired by ancient cultures and practices,  underground street art, and the not so underground electronic music revolution.

artist websiteAshley Montague

Ashley Montague has worked in the medium of acrylics and mixed media techniques since his youth. Raised by artist parents, abstract and impressionist visions were the everyday sight. Nowadays, add some aerosol, a keen sense of flow and motion, a heap of color, and you’ve got the recipe for some tasty visual elixirs. His paintings are direct extensions of his ideas and feelings, sometimes trailing concepts for weeks. You can watch the themes and color palettes morph and weave, creating a ‘remixed’ version of the last, but only for a second…until they take on direction all their own. “Entering the land of the unknown and unplanned is what really keeps me going…not knowing my next move but still stepping sure footed, really working through a piece on every level…” He currently works and resides in NE Portland, OR at his home studio. Ashley keeps busy with projects ranging from murals to design work and always creating personal paintings to get that inner voice heard.

Mashing Ink, watercolour, pen and screenprint into densely textured visual planes, the paintings of L. Basil McMahon [Basil Undrtheweather] tease out fleeting notions of composure amidst a world set on fire. Finesse with the silkscreen and a knack for splatters inject Basil’s work with an eye-arresting, graphic touch evocative of an imminent ancient future gone somehow fantastically awry. Basil’s work has been exhibited in galleries, pasted in the streets, and popped up at festivals internationally including Ayden, Jacana and The Fall Galleries (Vancouver, Canada), Million Fishes Gallery (San Fransisco), Symbiosis Gathering (CA, US), Shambhala Music Festival (BC, CA) and the FLU/ORG Protocolo Nucle.ART festival (Santiago, Chile).

artist websiteBenjamin Braun

As in a dream, everything becomes possible. As with paint on a canvas, a wall, the ground, or the body, all expression can be explored and blossomed.

Benjamin aims to dreamingly beautify everything to the core with magical greens, blues, purples and highlights of black light lit teals and yellows. With these vivid colors, his art tunnels through deep jungle havens of explosive kaleidoscopic landscapes, and you may find your inner vision, emotions and feelings spiraling outward along with them.

From within this landscape I extend to it the body of the humanoid female form, seeping warm vibrational energies of spirit caressing the

everything. And behind it the vibrantly colorful cosmic landscapes of nature deepest emotions and desires.

It is these concepts and thought constructs I strive to carve into the canvasses of life with it’s endless possibilities of beautiful, magical forms which silently communicate all of their own unique magic.  I seek to paint Everything all at once as the same entity but different forms all spiraling in and out of each other. At the same time in the hand and sight of the mysterious wizardly and druidic forces behind it all, micro to macro, gazing into the fold of creation with eyes and arms open with excitement, anticipation and love.

This is what I have felt since I can remember being alive in this body and what I want to give and express now and as long as time and space allows using life as a medium.

i am fascinated by mirrors as an art medium since it obligates the viewer to become a tangible part of the artwork. breaking mirrors is superstitiously considered to bring poor fortune but i believe that creation out of destruction reaps a rich reward. handling the sharp edges without harm becomes a meditation of sorts since it requires my full attention. we are all reflections of one another, shattered by time and experiences to rebuild ourselves anew into familiar and unfamiliar shapes that still shine and reflect us back again to each other, always changing, fragile, sharp, and never the same twice.

Over the last few years I’ve spent as much of my time as possible in the most vibrantly conscious waters of reality, riding the largest waves of creativity I can find. Most always with a paintbrush in hand, I do my best to express life’s mystery as I see it in this very moment. Festivals are fantastic for allowing each of us to be a thread in a shade of color, and together we weave the most brilliant creation presenting life as we know it. My thread’s color, Burgandy.

artist websiteNature

Nature never considered himself an artist until four summers ago while helping to set up a festival in Oregon. Nature had a vision of creating Heaven On Earth using whatever he could find in the natural world. A year later, he returned to the same land, built a medicine wheel, and thus began a 3 year long spiritual pilgrimage creating eco-art installations whereever he went. During the festival seasons of 2008 and 2009, Nature toured on and off with Scott O’keefe of Emerald Installations. Since then, Nature has built a reputation for himself that preceeds him. He has co-created over 50 installations with 3 dozen plus events under his belt and 3 years of touring. He is revered by all his peers in the visionary art world and beyond.

His mission and vision as an artist is to co-create a dream reality that manifests heaven on earth and inspires other to do the same by discovering their true passion, deepest love, and highest expression of what it means to be ALIVE!

A silks performance of trance and ‘no mind.’   In the absence of thought lies the infinite space of creative potential.

After training & performing on the silks for 5 years, something happened…  my mind relinquished control of the dance and something much, much larger took its place.  Undefinable by nature, yet familiar to most who have experienced timeless moments of zen, satori, or trance…this is what I offer through me, to you.  Surrendering mind, body and spirit to the passion and presence of the moment, each performance is  non-choreographed and is as unique as the moment in which it occurs, ideally accentuating the ecstatic presence we all bring to events such as Emrg+N+See.   It is a pleasure and delight to have the opportunity to share this with you.

Galaxy Conduit is an immersive interactive art dome and cosmic portal that transports the participants into the vast recesses of space, evoking wonder at the beauty of the universe and offering interconnectedness through hand-holding. Solo participants can trigger light and soundscapes on the glowing push-button console, but only larger groups of people can link together with hand to hand and skin to plasma contact to complete human circuitry and unlock a cosmic secret. Higher numbers of people trigger higher energy sound and light states, coupled with imagery that reveals the concentric patterns of the universe from the largest to smallest scale, journeying out to the farthest voids of space back to the surface of the Earth and deep into the nucleus of an atom.

Completing a traditional three year retreat in 1993, and many other retreats over the years. Marrying her teachers son, soon after giving birth to her son ,a recognized reincarnation. They traveled extensively on pilgrimages throughout India, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet, visiting many holy sites and monestaraies affiliated with the lineage and family. After surviving cancer, and leaving the marriage, she returned to her roots as an artist. Falling in with the avant guard artist collective, “El Circo”, she began to perform in shows. Her friends would come to visit her on her rural retreat land on the coast in Northern California, and would hear her sing her prayers in the early morning hours. Inspired by the peace it invoked, they asked her to record. Random Rab then created the first tracks.   Recently releasing her first album, UNION.

artist websiteRob Pea

Rob’s work is the product of your dreams. Your subconscious workings, the gnomes constructing colors between your temples when your body finds itself in its most quiet hour. The paintings aren’t his. They belong to you and the bodies that have long since been tilled into the ground. They are the images of Jean-Leon Gerome re-incarnated as tapestries of disembodied animals and floating sea creatures. He takes the modern dilemma of too much stimuli and sandwiches it between crayons and the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The colors are laser beams and the brushes, turtle feet. If the paintings could talk, they wouldn’t. (They are meditating at the moment and, like the Dalai Lama, will be until they die). Despite his verbosity, Rob is as down to earth as an acorn and can hallucinate completely sober. He’s not pretentious, but his bio is. He’d like to give you a hug.

artist websiteScott Ross Kelley (Encounter)

These are the images and thoughts that I am currently trying to project. I do this by melding images of outer space gas’s and nebula’s, with intricate patterns, grids, sacred geometry and ideas taken from anything that is around me.   Often microscopic organisms such as pollen sacks,  atoms, molecules, even circuit boards and mechanical machinery will show up within these colorful landscapes, leaving the viewers mind to figure out it’s deeper meaning, and what lies deeper in this mysterious experience that is existence .  I enjoy creating with acrylic paint, graphite pencil, and many other mediums that travel into my minds eye.
You can find almost all of my work at www.myspace.com/encounterart  or www.myspace.com/srkcreations
the two pictures I have sent are called “atoms and archetypes” which is done with graphite pencil, and “various particles and elements” that is acrylic on canvas.

They resemble angelic artichokes, or alien asparagus. They are three dimensional mandalas, fibonacci quilted spires, giant tiny plant shaped lamps, seraphic drakones, elder being devas, geodesic luminaries, galactic sea urchin visitors, and pine cone dragon tails. artist websiteThe Multi-Dimensional Galactivation Station

Presented by PhotonicBliss (Brian Pinkham and Peter Silva)

Galactivation Station / Whompilator Interactive Art Installations from PhotonicBliss on Vimeo.

The Multi-Dimensional Galactivation Station is a super sensory experience of light, sound, touch and play. It’s a 12′ pyramid portal to another dimension.  As you step inside, the installation creates extraterrestrial music and sounds, directly corresponding to the motion of your body.  You will likely find yourself moved to dance, as you experience a total shift from the paradigm that your dance is created by the music, because in the Galactivation Station, the music is created by your dance!  The music activates a full color LED array covering the entire installation surface, creating a fully immersive torrent of color and light, all of which pulse and throb in resonance with the sounds produced.

This piece engages the participants inner child and invites people to drop any baggage at the door and fully drop in to experience.  The aim is to teach people how to play again, which is a space fully engaged in the present moment.

artist websiteTodji Sculpture

My sculptures are created from intuition, discipline and a journey of self- realization. My intellectual understanding of what I create, summarized below, develops long after the intuitive execution of the work.

Sculptors throughout the ages have employed a forced perspective technique, enlarging the head, torso and shoulders of monuments to create the illusion of correct proportions when seen from below. Michelangelo sculpted David with a forced perspective, making the top of the monument proportionally bigger to great effect. In my work, I apply a signature interpretation to this age old technique, and I execute it with the exact opposite intent.

Our eyes help us to estimate the size and distance of objects by making far away objects look smaller and close objects look bigger. Just as a skyscraper appears to be narrower at the top, or a parent appears to have a little head and enormous legs to a small child; my sculptures give physical form to the ocular phenomenon that happens between the eye and the brain when we view objects that are both close and far away.

artist websiteTonya Smithburg

My forte is painting. However I love playing with any medium I get a chance to use. Ceramics, sculpture, Stained Glass, Jewlery, Dreads… anything that has to do with design. As a living I paint
murals and do commission work in Silverton Or, (for the time being.) Realism seems to be what I naturally lean towards but the gemini in me strives for change and experimentation. Most resent I have discovered the effects light has with paint. Color changing LEDS and Black Lights. Even no light, Glow in the dark paint. Black light paint is particularly fun to create intense, vibrant, works of glowing art.  Sometimes I will paint the background bright with black objects over the top. Other pieces I use the black light paint to highlight what i want to stand out.
I have done art eversince I can remember but started really getting into painting when i was 15. Since then my art has won numerous awards. One picture I painted of a grey horse hung in the congress house for a year. I feel there is a purpose to my ability as with every human and I strive to fulfill it.  I want to move people for the better with what I do. Create all the positive energy I can for the here and now.
